AI-Generated Love Songs Take Centre Stage in Caleb Flynn Murder Trial
AI-generated songs allegedly written by Caleb Flynn for his former lover were played in an Ohio courtroom during his murder trial over the killing of his wife, Ashley Flynn.
Jurors in the murder trial of Caleb Flynn, a former contestant on "American Idol", were on Thursday presented with AI-generated songs that prosecutors say he wrote for a former lover before the killing of his wife, Ashley Flynn.
Alleigha Botner, described in court as Flynn's former lover, was shown lyrics from one of the AI-generated tracks and questioned about what the words meant to her. The song was entered as a state exhibit and played aloud in the courtroom as evidence.
Asked about the meaning of the lyrics, Botner said she believed the song had been written to show how much Flynn cared about her. When questioned about a line referring to the pair being "just friends", she described it as marking the beginning of their friendship.
Botner also testified about the period after January 11, 2026, saying she did not communicate with Flynn until February 14. During that stretch, she said, he reached out to her two or three times without a response, including by sending her a song he had written with all the lyrics.
Flynn was arrested in Ohio in February and charged with shooting and killing his wife and staging the crime scene to mislead investigators. Ashley Flynn, 37, was found dead after officers responded to a report of a burglary and shooting at a home in Tipp City, according to Tipp City Police.
Her husband and two children were inside the home when officers arrived. In a 911 call released by authorities, Caleb Flynn is heard frantically telling a dispatcher that someone had broken into his home and killed his wife, saying she had been shot multiple times in the head and that he did not know whether the intruder was still inside.
Ashley Flynn worked as a middle school volleyball coach and substitute teacher, Tipp City Schools said in a post on its Facebook page.
