Canada's trade minister to hold fresh talks with US envoy ahead of tariff deadline

Canada's point person on US trade relations is set to hold another round of high-level discussions in Washington this week, as the clock ticks down to a looming tariff deadline.
Dominic LeBlanc, the Canadian minister overseeing trade with the United States, will meet US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Thursday. The session marks the second such meeting between the two officials this week and their fourth in the span of three weeks, according to a spokesperson for LeBlanc.
Canada's chief trade negotiator, Janice Charette, will also be present at the talks, the spokesperson confirmed.
The flurry of diplomatic engagement comes as Ottawa pushes to secure a deal before new US tariffs are scheduled to take effect on August 19. With just days remaining, Canadian and American officials have been holding frequent discussions in an effort to bridge differences and avoid the trade penalties.
The upcoming meeting underscores the urgency on the Canadian side to resolve outstanding issues and protect cross-border commerce from the impending duties.
