Car Bomb Blast Outside Mexico Police Station Injures at Least 10
A car bomb exploded outside a police station in Ojocaliente, Mexico, injuring at least 10 people and damaging 17 properties.
At least 10 people were injured when a vehicle loaded with explosives detonated outside a municipal police station in Ojocaliente, a city in central-northern Mexico, on Sunday night. Authorities confirmed on Monday that one person remains in serious condition.
The blast, which occurred around 7 p.m. on narrow streets in the city center, left burned-out vehicles and shattered windows in its wake. In total, 17 properties were damaged in the explosion.
A local resident, Margarita Hernández, described hearing an alarm shortly after something was thrown in the area. "As soon as they threw whatever it was, as soon as they threw it, the alarm went off. Since the alarm wouldn't turn off, that's when I looked out and the fire was already big," she said. She added that the most frightening part was "hearing the sound of glass breaking and breaking."
Authorities stated that the vehicle had been parked in front of the police station shortly before the explosion. Investigators are also examining two other vehicles that may have been involved in the incident.
In response to the attack, Ojocaliente authorities suspended the start of the school year on Monday and halted administrative activities, while maintaining operational and emergency services.
