Carvykti Shows Five-Year Treatment-Free Remission in Half of Early-Line Myeloma Patients
A single infusion of Carvykti led to five-year treatment-free remissions in 50% of patients with early-line relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, with a five-year overall survival rate of 69.2%.
Johnson & Johnson has announced new long-term follow-up data for Carvykti (ciltacabtagene autoleucel), its CAR-T cell therapy for multiple myeloma. According to the company, a single infusion of the treatment produced five-year treatment-free remissions in half of patients who received it in the early-line relapsed or refractory setting.
The results also showed a five-year overall survival rate of 69.2% and a median progression-free survival of 60.5 months. These figures suggest that a one-time infusion can deliver durable disease control for a substantial proportion of patients facing a difficult-to-treat blood cancer.
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells that often relapses despite initial treatment, making long-term remission a key goal for newer therapies. Carvykti is designed to target BCMA, a protein found on myeloma cells, using genetically modified immune cells taken from the patient.
The data add to the growing body of evidence on the potential of CAR-T therapies to provide lasting benefit in earlier lines of treatment. Further details from the study were not included in the company's brief announcement.
