CBI Registers FIR in Disha Salian Death Case After High Court Order
The CBI has filed an FIR in the Disha Salian death case, acting on a Bombay High Court order that came after her father alleged lapses by Mumbai Police.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a first information report in connection with the death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, officials said on Monday.
The move follows the Bombay High Court's September 2 direction asking the central agency to take over the investigation. Before registering the case, the CBI had written to the police seeking all documents and records related to Salian's death to assist its probe.
Salian was found dead on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. Her death came days before Rajput was found dead at his Bandra flat. At the time, the city police registered an Accidental Death Report in the case.
The High Court's order came on a petition filed by Satish Salian, Disha's father, who alleged lapses by Mumbai Police in the investigation. The court criticised the police for not registering an FIR for six years, observing that the investigation "raises more questions than answers" and pointing to "glaring discrepancies".
The court also noted that copies of the post-mortem report and the Accidental Death Report had not been provided to Salian's family even six years after her death.
After conducting an inquiry, the police had claimed that Salian's death was a case of suicide. Her father, however, filed a petition in the High Court last year alleging that his daughter was gang-raped and murdered.
