CBN Rajasthan Seizes Nearly Four Tonnes of Contraband, Arrests Four
The CBN Rajasthan unit seized 3,937 kg of poppy straw, 9.6 kg of opium and 1.9 kg of hydroponic cannabis, along with cash, vehicles and a pistol, arresting four people.
The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) Rajasthan unit has reported a series of enforcement actions carried out over recent weeks, resulting in the recovery of close to four tonnes of contraband and the arrest of four people.
According to the unit, the operations yielded 3,937 kg of poppy straw (Doda Chura), 9.6 kg of opium and 1.9 kg of hydroponic cannabis (ganja). Officials also seized ₹18.42 lakh in cash, six vehicles and a country-made pistol loaded with three live rounds.
In the largest single haul, a truck was intercepted carrying 2,292.460 kg of poppy straw packed in 118 bags. The consignment was concealed beneath a cover load of cement bags. Two people were arrested and the truck was seized. A follow-up search at the residential premises of one of the arrested men led to the recovery of a motorcycle and a register.
A second operation led to the recovery of 1,037 kg of Doda Chura packed in 56 bags from a premises where a Fortuner car loaded with the contraband was found. A country-made pistol with three live rounds was also recovered from the vehicle.
Separately, 340 kg of poppy straw packed in 23 bags was found in a Tata Harrier, while 156.7 kg packed in nine bags was recovered from a Honda Amaze after its occupant abandoned the vehicle and fled. Another 110 kg of poppy straw was recovered from a Creta, leading to one arrest.
In a further case, 9.6 kg of opium and ₹18.42 lakh in cash were recovered from residential premises, with one person arrested.
In a distinct action, the unit searched an international parcel received from the USA at the Foreign Post Office in Jaipur. The search led to the recovery of 1.9 kg of hydroponic cannabis concealed in four packets inside an air circulator box.
All the contraband, vehicles and other articles have been seized under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigations are continuing in all the cases to trace sources, destinations, supply channels and others linked to the trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs.
The CBN said it remains committed to the vision of "Safe Use and Prevent Abuse of Drugs or Medicines" and "Nasha Mukt Bharat", and continues to pursue intelligence-driven enforcement and preventive awareness measures against the illegal trafficking, diversion and abuse of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
