CBSE Releases Class 10 Maths Basic Sample Paper and Marking Scheme for 2026-27

The Central Board of Secondary Education has published the Class 10 Mathematics (Basic) Sample Question Paper along with its Marking Scheme for the 2026-27 academic session. Both documents are available on the board's official academic website, and students preparing for the Class 10 board examinations in 2027 can use them to understand how the paper will be structured.

Paper structure

The Mathematics (Basic) sample paper contains 38 compulsory questions organised into five sections. Section A consists of 20 one-mark questions, covering multiple-choice items as well as Assertion-Reason questions. Section B has five questions of two marks each, while Section C carries six questions worth three marks apiece. Section D comprises four long-answer questions of five marks each, and Section E includes three case-study questions carrying four marks each.

There is no overall choice in the paper. Internal choices, however, are provided within some questions.

How to use the sample paper

Students can attempt the sample paper as a timed practice test, working through it without referring to books or notes. Once finished, they can compare their responses against the official marking scheme to identify areas that need more revision. The marking scheme is designed to show how marks are awarded, helping candidates understand where they may be losing points.
