CCB Searches Former Tamil Nadu Education Minister's Tiruchi Home in School Fraud Probe
The Central Crime Branch searched former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi's Tiruchi residence in connection with an alleged multi-crore fraud involving private schools.
A five-member team from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Chennai City Police carried out a search at the Tiruchi residence of former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Wednesday. The operation at his home in Thennur Anna Nagar began at 7:30 a.m.
The search is linked to an alleged multi-crore fraud involving private schools that is said to have taken place during the previous DMK government, when Mr. Poyyamozhi held the School Education portfolio.
The case was registered by the CCB earlier, and it has already arrested B.T. Arasakumar. He is accused of collecting large sums — amounting to around ₹100 crore — from private school managements in exchange for upgrading schools, obtaining permanent recognition and securing building plan approvals.
Arasakumar was running an unregistered association called the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association, according to the investigation.
Wednesday's search at the former Minister's residence is part of the ongoing probe into the alleged racket.
