CDSCO Flags Unauthorised Pakistani Whitening Creams Sold in India
India's drug regulator has alerted consumers to two Pakistani-made whitening creams sold without authorisation and containing excessive heavy metals.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued a public alert over two cosmetic products manufactured in Pakistan that are being sold in India without authorisation.
A notice dated September 8, 2026 identified the products as 'Goree Beauty Cream' and 'Chandni Whitening Cream'. According to the regulator, neither product holds the clearances required for sale in the country, and no trade registration certificate has been issued to their manufacturers.
The notice outlined the regulatory requirements that these products fail to meet. Any cosmetic manufactured for sale and distribution in India requires a licence from the State Licensing Authority, while imported cosmetics must be registered with the Central Licensing Authority under the prescribed rules.
Beyond the authorisation gap, the CDSCO said the creams contain heavy metals at levels exceeding specified limits. Such excessive concentrations, it warned, could expose consumers to toxic effects and other health risks.
Consumers have been advised not to purchase or use either product. Those who may have already bought them were urged to avoid using them, and to exercise the same caution with cosmetic products bearing similar names.
The regulator also cautioned establishments and individuals against selling, distributing or advertising these products, stating that action would follow for any violation.
The alert adds to ongoing scrutiny of cosmetic products entering the Indian market without regulatory clearance, particularly those marketed for skin whitening.
