Farmer killed in suspected tiger attack in Chamarajanagar; villagers protest

A 65-year-old farmer was found dead in his agricultural field at Badagalapura in Chamarajanagar district on Monday evening, in what is suspected to be a tiger attack.

The deceased has been identified as Basavanna. He had gone to work in his field when the incident is believed to have occurred. His body was later discovered in a mauled condition.

The matter came to light after Basavanna did not return home. Family members and villagers began searching for him and eventually found his body in the field.

The suspected attack sparked angry protests by residents of Badagalapura and surrounding villages, who directed their anger at the Forest Department over what they described as a failure to prevent attacks by wild animals in the area.

Protesters demanded compensation for the family as well as a government job for one of Basavanna's relatives. They also called for the immediate capture of the tiger, which has not yet been traced.

The body was subsequently shifted to Chamarajanagar hospital for a post-mortem examination.
