Chandigarh Head Constable Shot Dead at Home; Son Detained

A Chandigarh Police head constable was shot dead at his home in Sector 22 on Friday morning, in an incident that investigators believe stemmed from a dispute within the family.

The officer, identified as Nitin, was posted in the Accounts Branch at the Police Headquarters. According to police, he was at his residence when a heated argument broke out with his son, Armaan.

Police said that during the altercation, Armaan allegedly opened fire on his father. Nitin suffered multiple gunshot injuries and was declared dead at the spot. His body was subsequently found inside a room, after which the police were alerted.

Armaan has been detained and is being questioned as part of the investigation.

Senior officers and investigation teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Forensic experts are examining the room and gathering evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events, including the circumstances of the shooting and the weapon involved.

Initial inputs pointed to the possible use of Nitin's service revolver, though investigators said they are looking into all aspects of the case. The exact circumstances of the death will be determined after the forensic examination and further inquiry.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said the officer's son has been detained and that police are probing every angle to establish what led to the head constable's death.
