Chennai opens volunteer registration on Namma Chennai app ahead of monsoon
The Greater Chennai Corporation has begun enrolling volunteers via the upgraded Namma Chennai app to coordinate relief work during the Northeast monsoon.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has begun registering volunteers through an upgraded version of the Namma Chennai mobile application, as the city prepares for the Northeast monsoon. The exercise follows directions from Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The drive is intended to bring the public, non-governmental organisations, residents' associations and other bodies into official emergency and disaster-relief efforts. Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran said the platform would help organise volunteers' services and assign them work based on where they prefer to serve.
Those wishing to enrol can do so through the Namma Chennai application or the Corporation's website. First-time users must create an account with their name, mobile number, e-mail address, residential address and PIN code, and then log in with a one-time password.
After signing in, applicants select the volunteer registration option and choose whether they are registering as an individual, a corporate entity or an NGO or association. The form requires details of any past disaster experience, an uploaded identity document, emergency contact information and a preferred area of expertise.
Volunteers may also name the zone where they wish to work, or opt for any area within Chennai if they are ready to serve anywhere in the Corporation's limits.
