A 52-year-old woman in Chhattisgarh died after consuming pesticide, allegedly upset over repeated internet disruptions that stopped her reels.
A 52-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh's Korba district died on Monday after allegedly consuming pesticide at her home, reportedly upset over repeated internet connectivity failures that interrupted her mobile phone reels.
The woman, identified as Manglo Bai Sarathi, a resident of Kerakachhar village under Kartala police station limits, had attempted to end her life on Saturday, September 5, 2026. She was undergoing treatment but succumbed on Monday, September 7, 2026, police said.
According to her family, Sarathi was addicted to watching reels on her phone. On the day of the incident, the network repeatedly dropped, causing the videos to stop. Frustrated, she allegedly threw her phone on the ground, damaging it, and then consumed pesticide stored at home.
Her 17-year-old daughter noticed her condition deteriorating and alerted other family members. Sarathi was rushed to the Kartala primary health centre, where she received initial treatment. Given her critical state, she was later referred to a medical college hospital in Korba, where she died during treatment.
The body has been handed over to the family, and police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
