China urges Gulf parties to return to dialogue as Kuwait FM visits Beijing
Chinese FM Wang Yi calls for Middle East de-escalation during Kuwait FM talks in Beijing, marking 55 years of bilateral ties.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on parties in the Middle East and Gulf region to return to dialogue and negotiation, describing the current situation as being at a critical juncture. Speaking during talks with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Beijing on Monday, Wang stressed that de-escalation must be the immediate priority.
The meeting, held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, also served to reaffirm the strength of China-Kuwait relations. Wang noted that Beijing attaches great importance to its ties with Kuwait and expressed readiness to use the upcoming 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to build a more substantive strategic partnership.
Wang also voiced confidence that Kuwait would continue to support China's position on issues concerning its core interests, and would ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects operating in the country.
In response, Jarrah expressed Kuwait's appreciation for China's long-standing assistance in safeguarding Kuwaiti sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reaffirmed Kuwait's firm adherence to the one-China principle and its commitment to implementing the consensus reached by the two countries' heads of state.
Jarrah added that Kuwait is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to help restore security and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region, and to protect the freedom and safety of international waterways.
