China Signals Readiness to Counter Fresh US Tariff Proposals

China says it is monitoring US tariff plans and reserves the right to respond with all necessary measures.

Beijing has said it is closely watching developments in Washington over a possible new round of tariffs on Chinese goods, with officials making clear that countermeasures remain on the table.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Thursday, commerce ministry spokesperson Huang Ling said China would continue to monitor and assess the situation. The remarks came in response to reports that the United States is considering an additional 7.5 percent duty on certain Chinese products, citing concerns over excess manufacturing capacity.

Huang stressed that Beijing reserves the right to take all necessary measures in response. The statement stops short of announcing any specific action, but signals that China is prepared to defend its trade interests if the proposed tariffs are formally introduced.

The development adds another layer of uncertainty to the already strained trade relationship between the world's two largest economies. Analysts will be watching for further signals from both sides in the coming weeks.
