China, Russia Pledge Deeper Regional Ties at Vladivostok Economic Forum

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang calls for stronger China-Russia regional cooperation, citing trade growth and visa-free travel gains.

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang has called for deeper regional cooperation between China and Russia, urging closer alignment of Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union's development agenda.

Speaking on Thursday at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Ding — also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee — proposed further synchronising China's Northeast revitalisation strategy with Russia's Far East development programme.

Ding noted that regional cooperation, particularly between China's northeast and Russia's Far East, has yielded substantial results under the strategic guidance of both nations' leaders. He highlighted that China remains the largest trading partner of Russia's Far East, with key projects accelerating and a mutual visa-free policy boosting cross-border passenger and cargo flows.

The vice premier suggested both sides focus on people's needs, strengthen inter-regional support, and develop industries with local characteristics to ensure tangible benefits for citizens. He also called for promptly addressing business concerns, maintaining policy stability, and fostering a favourable environment for enterprise growth.

Beyond economic ties, Ding encouraged deeper exchanges in culture, tourism, education, and youth affairs, including successful implementation of activities under the China-Russia Years of Education.

Addressing regional security, Ding said China and Russia should jointly safeguard peace and stability, uphold UN Charter principles and international fairness, and deter challenges to World War II outcomes and the post-war international order.

Ding expressed confidence in China's ability to maintain steady economic growth, reiterating the country's commitment to high-standard opening up and welcoming foreign businesses to continue investing in China.
