China Demands US Lift Sanctions on Its Firms, Citizens Over Iran Ties
China's commerce ministry urged the US to immediately revoke sanctions imposed on Chinese companies and citizens over Iran-related issues, calling the measures unjustified.
Beijing has formally called on Washington to withdraw sanctions it has placed on Chinese businesses and individuals, describing the measures as unjustified and harmful to global commerce.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Huang Ling, a spokeswoman for China's Ministry of Commerce, said the United States had repeatedly imposed penalties on Chinese entities on the pretext of issues connected to Iran. She stressed that such actions were taken despite China's repeated diplomatic protests.
Huang argued that the sanctions lack any basis in international law and were not authorized by the United Nations Security Council. She said the measures improperly interfere with normal economic and trade exchanges between countries and severely disrupt global energy security and stable supply chains.
The spokeswoman urged the United States to immediately correct its practices and lift the sanctions on the affected Chinese companies and citizens. She added that China would resolutely safeguard the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of its firms and nationals.
