China Urges US to 'Overcome Obstacles' Ahead of Expected Xi-Trump Meeting

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on Washington to work with Beijing in clearing hurdles to high-level dialogue, as preparations continue for a possible summit between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump next month.

During a meeting with US Ambassador David Perdue on Wednesday, Wang urged both sides to "focus on the positive agenda, properly manage differences, remove interference and overcome obstacles to high-level exchanges between the two countries," according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

Wang acknowledged that bilateral ties "still face various risks and challenges," a statement released by CCTV said.

The diplomatic push comes after Trump and Xi met in Beijing in May, where they agreed to keep relations stable and maintain a fragile trade truce. Trump has since invited Xi to visit the US on September 24, though the exact date of the Chinese leader's trip has not been confirmed.

Despite the planned engagement, both countries have continued targeted economic actions against each other. Washington has banned Chinese-made robots, while Beijing has restricted American entities from engaging in trade and other activities within China.
