China Warns Japan's Military Expansion Poses Regional Threat

China has issued a sharp warning against Japan's accelerating military expansion, saying the country's push for offensive capabilities poses a genuine danger to regional peace and stability.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing on Friday, Chen Xi, spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense, said Japan's actions are becoming increasingly aggressive and warrant close attention from neighboring countries.

Chen was responding to queries about Japan's recent live-fire test of a Tomahawk cruise missile by its Maritime Self-Defense Force and a separate test of a new missile by its Air Self-Defense Force.

He argued that Tokyo's references to a "neighboring security threat" are merely a pretext to abandon its pacifist constitution and its long-standing "exclusively defense-oriented" policy.

The spokesman asserted that Japan's own military buildup is the real threat to its security and to the wider region. He called on the international community to unite and take measures to curb what he described as a rise in Japanese neo-militarism, warning that such a path could plunge the world into turmoil.

Chen also stressed that the nightmare of war must not be repeated and that peace must be preserved.
