Christian Bale Backs Foster Care Facility for Siblings in California

Actor Christian Bale joined fellow board members of Together California in Palmdale, California, to open a new foster care facility, with children cutting the ribbon at the site.

Speaking at the event, Bale said the idea for the project took shape when his daughter was three years old and is now 21, describing the long effort to bring it together. He said it was "absolutely shameful" to imagine a child being taken into care and then separated from siblings.

Bale described the facility as a "mothership" designed to support young people from birth through to aging out of the system. He said its work includes reuniting children with biological parents where possible and, where it is not, preparing them so they do not end up incarcerated or homeless.

He pointed to a 100% high school graduation rate as part of the effort, adding that the aim is for young people to understand that people care about them, love them, have patience for them and that there is hope for the future.

Reflecting on his own involvement, Bale said he does not consider himself a charming man, does not socialize much or network, and that people do not often call him back. He said it was meaningful to see a "pure good idea" that no one could object to come to fruition.
