Four CISF personnel killed in Kathua camp firing; colleague held
Four CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, were killed in a fratricide incident at a camp in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were killed in an alleged fratricide incident at a camp in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The firing took place around 7.30 p.m. at the Sewa-III hydroelectric power project site in Mashka village, Basohli, close to the Himachal Pradesh border.
According to preliminary information, Head Constable Abhidesh Kumar allegedly opened fire with his service rifle after an argument with some of his colleagues.
Four CISF personnel were critically injured in the firing and later died at a nearby NHPC hospital. The deceased were identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.
Other personnel at the camp overpowered the accused after the firing, and he was subsequently arrested. The service weapon used in the incident was also seized as part of the investigation.
Senior CISF and police officers reached the scene, and officials said the exact circumstances that led to the argument and the subsequent firing are being ascertained.
