Earlier, at a press conference, Clooney addressed the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros, expressing skepticism about its financial logic and concern over potential job losses. He also defended actor Mark Ruffalo, who had faced criticism from Paramount over remarks some deemed anti-Semitic. Clooney affirmed his support for Ruffalo's right to speak freely, stating that free speech is essential to democracy, even when he disagrees with it.

Clooney, an Oscar winner, has been a regular at Venice in recent years, presenting films like 'Wolfs' and 'Jay Kelly.' Besides the award, he is scheduled to deliver a masterclass at the festival on September 3.
