Colombia Earthquake: Woman Pulled Alive From Rubble After 36 Hours

Rescuers in the Colombian city of Pereira have pulled a woman alive from the wreckage of a building that collapsed during a powerful earthquake, ending a 36-hour ordeal that gripped the city.

The survivor, identified as 32-year-old Daniela Largo Sánchez, was extricated from the debris on Tuesday night to applause from the rescue team and onlookers. She was immediately placed in an ambulance and taken for medical treatment.

According to firefighters from Bogotá who are assisting in the operation, Sánchez was located about ten hours before she was finally brought out. Her rescue was a delicate operation, as she was buried deep beneath layers of concrete and twisted metal, requiring careful excavation to avoid further injury.

Footage from the scene showed rescuers working through the night, coordinating their efforts and using a blue sheet to shield Sánchez from view as they worked to free her. At one point, a rescuer could be heard saying in Spanish, "We're doing well."

The rescue effort is not over. Firefighters have confirmed that another person is still believed to be trapped in the same building, and teams have resumed their search-and-rescue operations to reach them.
