Telangana Congress dares KCR to attend Assembly, calls out absence
Telangana Congress held a dharna in Hyderabad, challenging BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao to attend the Assembly and engage in policy debates instead of airing grievances on social media.
The Telangana Congress on Sunday turned up the heat on BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, demanding he attend the Assembly and fulfil his duties as Leader of the Opposition. Addressing a protest at Indira Park in Hyderabad, senior party leaders said Rao should stop spreading misinformation online and instead use the legislative forum to raise issues.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the public expects Rao to play a constructive Opposition role. He asserted that the government is open to suggestions and willing to correct any wrong decisions. Goud also highlighted the state's achievements, noting that the Congress administration has attracted ₹1.78 lakh crore in foreign investments over two years, with expectations of more job creation in the coming years. He pointed to the caste survey as a model initiative being watched by the rest of the country.
Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu challenged Rao to bring any matter to the Assembly floor, saying the government is prepared to respond to every question. He added that the administration has spent over ₹1.60 lakh crore on farmer welfare schemes.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar drew a contrast between the accountability of regular employees and that of the former Chief Minister. He noted that more than 72,000 government jobs have been filled under the current regime and that welfare allocations for SC, ST, BC, and minority communities have been increased. "An employee who stays away from work for 365 days faces action, but a former CM escapes any consequence," he remarked.
Former MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud and sitting MPs Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Mallu Ravi also criticised the BRS leadership, urging Rao to engage in debate rather than evade responsibility.
The dharna, presided over by government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao, saw participation from Ministers Mohammed Azharuddin and Vivek Venkataswamy, MPs Anil Kumar Yadav, Mallu Ravi, and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with working president T. Jagga Reddy and several MLAs and MLCs.
