The Congress on Sunday described the Election Commission's proposed measures on the electoral roll revision as damage control, saying the poll panel's response amounts to an admission that the exercise has been a disaster.
Senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said the steps announced by the Commission do not address the opposition's core concerns about the revision process. He flagged in particular the issues surrounding ECINet and the changes made to Form 6, which the party has repeatedly questioned.
According to Ramesh, the Commission's proposals fail to resolve the substantive objections raised during the debate over the Special Intensive Revision. He argued that the measures appear aimed at containing the fallout rather than fixing the underlying problems with the exercise.
The Congress has maintained that its concerns about the electoral roll revision remain unresolved despite the Commission's latest move. The party's response signals that the political dispute over the revision is far from settled, with the opposition continuing to press for answers on the procedural changes it has challenged.
