Congress SC/ST MPs plan presidential appeal over Haldwani remarks
Congress MPs from SC/ST communities will petition the President over the Haldwani 'purification' row and form a parliamentary forum.
A group of 32 Congress parliamentarians belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities has decided to approach the President with a memorandum concerning the recent controversy over remarks described as a 'purification' drive in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
MP Mallu Ravi said the decision was taken during a meeting of the lawmakers, where it was agreed to finalise the memorandum seeking presidential intervention in the matter. The move comes amid political tensions over the language used in connection with the Haldwani incident.
In addition to the petition, the MPs resolved to constitute a parliamentary forum dedicated to raising issues affecting SC and ST communities. The forum is expected to serve as a platform for coordinated action on legislative and policy matters concerning these groups.
The development signals an escalation of parliamentary pressure on the issue, with the Congress contingent seeking constitutional remedies through the office of the President.
