Congress Women MLAs Seek Action Against BRS Leaders Over Police Confrontation
Congress women MLAs have lodged a complaint with the Telangana State Commission for Women against BRS legislators for alleged misconduct with women police personnel at the Assembly on September 7.
A delegation of Congress women legislators has approached the Telangana State Commission for Women, demanding an inquiry and legal action against several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders. The complaint stems from a confrontation with women police personnel at the Legislative Assembly on September 7.
The delegation, which included MLAs Uttam Padmavathi and Yashaswini Reddy, alleged that the incident at Gate No. 3 involved disgraceful conduct, misogynistic remarks, and physical intimidation of women constables on security duty.
According to the complaint, former Minister T. Harish Rao, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, MLC Naveen Kumar Reddy, and MLAs Bandari Lakshma Reddy, K.P. Vivekanand, and D. Sudheer Reddy were among those who confronted the personnel.
The women legislators claimed that several male lawmakers removed their shirts in public view, standing in their inner vests while moving close to the women police. They also alleged that some BRS leaders used derogatory and sexist language. Specifically, the complaint stated that K.T. Rama Rao made a reference to the mythological character Shikhandi while questioning the deployment of women police, a remark the MLAs termed offensive and demeaning to working women.
Uttam Padmavathi described the incident as an assault on the dignity of women public servants. She asserted that elected representatives should be held accountable for their conduct towards women personnel discharging official duties, irrespective of political affiliation.
