Cooluli recalls 250,000 minifridges in the US over fire and burn hazards linked to a faulty selector switch; repair kits offered.
Cooluli is recalling approximately 250,000 of its compact refrigerators in the United States after reports of overheating, sparking, and fires. The recall, announced on Thursday, covers specific 10-Liter and 15-Liter models sold between January 2019 and October 2024.
The issue lies in the selector switch that lets users toggle between cooling and warming modes. On certain older units, this switch can overheat, creating a fire and burn hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received at least 19 reports of the fridges smoking, melting, catching fire, or causing related damage. These incidents have resulted in property damage exceeding $80,000, and one consumer reported smoke inhalation.
The affected units were sold through Cooluli's website and Amazon, priced between $80 and $120. Only models with an internal power supply from specific older production batches are impacted. Cooluli has clarified that newer fridges with an external power supply are not part of this recall.
As a remedy, Cooluli will provide a free repair kit to affected customers. Consumers are asked to check their model number on the company's website. If their unit is covered, they must cut the power cord and submit photos to receive the replacement kit. In the meantime, the company urges owners to stop using the recalled fridges immediately.
