The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Kerala has cautioned that the ongoing dispute with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) over the Deputy Leader of Opposition post could push the Left Democratic Front (LDF) into a politically vulnerable position.
CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam made the remarks amid a growing public spat between the two Left allies. The disagreement centres on which party should hold the Deputy Leader of Opposition position in the Kerala Assembly.
The warning comes in the wake of the LDF's decisive defeat in the recent Assembly elections. Viswam's statement suggests that continued internal friction could further weaken the front's standing.
Viswam underscored the CPI's foundational role within the LDF, describing the front as the CPI's child. He urged both parties to resolve the issue quickly to avoid long-term damage to their political alliance.
The remarks signal growing concern within the CPI that the prolonged disagreement may overshadow the LDF's ability to function as an effective opposition bloc.
