CPI Will Not Stay a Spectator If CPI(M) and LDF Are Politically Targeted: Binoy Viswam

CPI Kerala secretary Binoy Viswam said his party will not remain a spectator if the CPI(M) and LDF are politically hunted, amid an ED-FIR request in the CMRL-Exalogic case.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) will not stand by as a spectator if the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left Democratic Front are subjected to political targeting, the party's Keralam State secretary, Binoy Viswam, has said.

He was speaking to reporters in response to reports that the State Advocate General had advised the United Democratic Front-led government to accept a letter from the Enforcement Directorate to the State Police Chief. The letter reportedly seeks the registration of a first information report against Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and her husband P.A. Mohamed Riyas, a CPI(M) State secretariat member, in connection with the CMRL-Exalogic pay-off case.

Asked where the CPI stood on the matter, Mr. Viswam said initially that the party would examine the issue and respond. He later stated that the CPI has a clear position on it, which does not need to be restated every day.

His remarks come amid an ongoing political dispute in the State over the Enforcement Directorate's communication and the Advocate General's reported advice to the government.
