CPI(M) gears up for three-day extended State committee meet in Kozhikode
CPI(M) begins family gatherings in Kozhikode ahead of its extended State committee meeting from Sept 13 to review election losses and plan revival.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has begun a series of family-level gatherings across Kozhikode district as part of preparations for its three-day extended State committee meeting, scheduled to be held in the city from September 13. The sessions, which started on September 5 and will run until September 10, are being organised under the aegis of the party's 270 local committees in the district.
The meetings are expected to have the character of a full State conference, according to party sources. The primary agenda is to analyse the Left Democratic Front's defeat in the recent Assembly elections and chart a course to rejuvenate the cadre. Internal deliberations on the poll results have already been completed at every tier of the organisation, from branch units to the State committee.
A review report recently issued by the Central Committee, based on a State committee-approved document, noted that party functionaries at all levels were encouraged to speak openly while senior leaders listened without immediate comment. At the ongoing family gatherings, State committee and district secretariat members are consolidating the party's final assessment of the electoral outcome. The events, attended by CPI(M) sympathisers and fellow travellers, also feature felicitation of senior leaders and cultural programmes.
The extended State committee session is also expected to deliberate on strengthening mass contact and improving the effectiveness of the party and its affiliated mass organisations. Discussions on agitational programmes against Union government policies are also on the agenda. At least five Polit Bureau members are slated to attend.
To mark the conclusion of the meeting on September 15, the party has announced a massive rally at Kozhikode beach, with plans to mobilise over one lakh people. An organising committee, led by Beypore MLA P.A. Mohamed Riyas and CPI(M) Kozhikode district secretary M. Mehboob, has been constituted to oversee arrangements for the three-day event.
