CPI(M) Seeks Criminal Case Against Pudukad Officers Over Bike Ramming

The CPI(M) Thrissur district committee has demanded criminal proceedings against police personnel accused of deliberately driving their vehicle into a motorcycle carrying three youths at Pudukad, describing the episode as violence recalling the excesses of the Emergency.

K.V. Abdul Khader, the party's district secretary, said the officers responsible had not yet been booked and asked Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to explain the delay in registering a case.

The three youths — Amal Krishna, Abhilash and Vishnu — were riding a motorcycle when a police vehicle allegedly struck them from behind, throwing them onto the road and leaving them injured. According to the party, the personnel drove away without tending to the injured riders.

Mr. Abdul Khader cited a phone conversation involving police personnel that was recently made public by Prasanna, Amal Krishna's mother. The recording, said to have been captured inadvertently on a mobile phone, is presented by the party as evidence that the officers meant to hit the youths.

Ms. Prasanna has approached several senior officers, including the Director General of Police, the Deputy Inspector General and the Rural Superintendent of Police, seeking action, but the party contends that no effective steps have followed.

The district committee characterised the incident as serious criminal misconduct and called for a case to be registered against the accused officers and for their removal from service.
