CPI(M) Criticises Kerala Government's Police Probe Against Pinarayi Vijayan
CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby criticises the UDF government's decision to order a police probe against Pinarayi Vijayan and his kin, based on an ED request.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the United Democratic Front government in Kerala over its decision to institute a police investigation against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his relatives. The probe was ordered on the basis of a request from the Enforcement Directorate.
CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby said the Congress's political approach in Kerala stands in sharp contrast to the party's stated national position opposing the Central government's alleged misuse of investigative agencies to target parties outside the BJP-led alliance.
The development marks a fresh flashpoint between the ruling front in the State and the principal opposition party, which has consistently accused the Centre of weaponising agencies such as the ED against its political opponents. The CPI(M) has now turned that argument on the Congress in Kerala, arguing that the State government's move undercuts the Congress's national posture.
The police probe, initiated at the ED's request, concerns Pinarayi Vijayan and his family members. Further details of the case were not immediately available.
