CPI(M) padayatra in Srikakulam demands probe into Narayanapuram land grabbing
CPI(M) leaders led a 15-km padayatra from Chilakapalem to Srikakulam, demanding a high-level probe into alleged grabbing of Narayanapuram lands.
The CPI(M) took its protest over the alleged grabbing of lands in Narayanapuram to the district headquarters on Tuesday, with a padayatra from Chilakapalem to Srikakulam that covered close to 15 km.
The march was led by the party's Srikakulam District Secretary, D. Govinda Rao, along with senior leaders Pakala Tejeswara Rao and Ch. Ammannaidu. Party workers and farmers, accompanied by their family members, joined the walk, which proceeded through heavy rain along the route.
Speaking at the end of the padayatra, Mr. Govinda Rao demanded that the government order a high-level inquiry into the alleged grabbing of the Narayanapuram lands, which he said had been cultivated by farmers for several decades.
He urged the administration to reclaim the lands from influential persons and hand them over to the cultivators. The protesters raised slogans against the government as they registered their opposition to the alleged encroachment.
Mr. Govinda Rao warned that if the demand was not met, the party would organise another padayatra to Amaravati to intensify pressure on the government.
