Cyber Cell Probes Suspected Intrusion Into Dam Safety Systems
Karnataka cyber police are investigating a suspected intrusion attempt targeting networks of the Dam Safety Organisation and SPMU-DRIP.
The Central Division Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into a suspected cyber intrusion targeting critical government infrastructure linked to dam safety oversight in the state.
The complaint was filed by the Office of the Chief Engineer, Dam Safety Organisation, which also serves as the Nodal Officer for the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP).
According to the complaint, the Chief Information Security Officer flagged suspicious activity involving certain IP addresses associated with the SPMU-DRIP and the Water Resources Development Organisation. These addresses were reportedly found to be communicating with a suspected malicious IP address, raising concerns about a possible attempt to gain unauthorised access to government computer systems and confidential information.
The organisation under scrutiny is responsible for monitoring large dams, ensuring compliance with dam safety norms, and implementing the World Bank-assisted DRIP through the SPMU.
Investigators are now working to trace the source of the suspected malicious IP address and identify the person or group behind the activity. They are expected to examine network logs, IP details, and other digital evidence to determine whether any systems were compromised or sensitive data was accessed.
