Three arrested in cab driver's murder, car theft on Hyderabad-Mumbai route
Cyberabad Police have arrested three Maharashtra residents in the murder of cab driver Nelamarri Rajashekhar near Rudraram on NH-65; two accused remain at large.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a cab driver and the theft of his vehicle on the Hyderabad-Mumbai route, police said. The arrests were made by the Cyberabad Police after the abandoned car and other material were recovered.
The deceased has been identified as Nelamarri Rajashekhar. He was killed around 4 a.m. on September 11 near an under-construction road overbridge on the outskirts of Rudraram village in Sangareddy district, close to NH-65.
The arrested accused are Ghodake Rahul (28), Suraj Shashikanth Tawade (29) and Bamble Raju Ramachandra (33), all residents of Maharashtra. Two other accused in the case are absconding.
Investigators said the accused hired Rajashekhar's cab near the Swimming Pool Bus Stop beside the Task Force Office on SP Road in Secunderabad during the intervening night of September 10 and 11, telling him they wanted to travel towards Mumbai.
After the cab reached an isolated stretch near Rudraram, the accused attacked the driver and strangled him with a towel, police said. They dumped his body near the under-construction overbridge and fled towards Mumbai in his car, bearing registration number TG 09 T 4759.
The vehicle developed a mechanical problem near Kohir, following which the accused abandoned it near Golden Dhaba and continued towards Zaheerabad. The abandoned car and other relevant material were secured, leading the police to trace and apprehend the three accused.
The Patancheru police initially registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder. During the investigation, sections relating to dacoity and criminal conspiracy were added, and the case was altered to Sections 310, 103(1), 61(2) read with 3(5) of the BNS.
