Cyberabad turns Ganesh immersion flower waste into incense, diyas
Cyberabad Municipal Corporation is collecting flowers discarded during Ganesh immersions and processing them into incense sticks, dhoops and diyas.
Flowers discarded by devotees during Ganesh idol immersions across Cyberabad are being collected separately and processed into products such as incense sticks, dhoops and diyas.
The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has gathered around 6,000 kg of floral waste from designated immersion points over the past 11 days, as part of its arrangements for the ongoing Ganesh Utsavam.
The flowers, which devotees leave behind as part of the immersion ritual, are segregated and dried before being converted into useful items. The measure is intended to keep floral waste from mixing with other refuse at immersion points and to encourage more responsible handling of festival waste.
As of Friday, 1,19,667 Ganesh idols had been immersed across Cyberabad. CMC teams were stationed at designated immersion points to oversee the immersions and manage sanitation, waste collection, devotee movement, safety and other civic services.
The civic body said it will continue the separate collection of flowers alongside its other field-level arrangements.
