Liquor outlets across the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate will remain shut for 24 hours on September 25, when the final Ganesh idol immersion is held.
The closure, ordered by Cyberabad Commissioner of Police M. Ramesh, applies to wine and toddy shops as well as bars attached to restaurants. It will be in force from 6 a.m. on September 25 until 6 a.m. on September 26.
Bars operating in star hotels and registered clubs have been kept out of the order's purview.
The directive was issued under Section 20 of the Telangana State Excise Act, 1968, with the stated aim of preserving public peace and tranquillity during the immersion proceedings.
Separately, the Commissioner inspected the Malkam Cheruvu immersion lake on Tuesday evening to review security arrangements for the immersions under way. He examined the cranes deployed for the process, checked the water level and looked over the arrangements at the baby pond.
Officials were instructed to ensure that the immersions proceed smoothly and that the public faces no inconvenience. Senior officers from the Kukatpally Zone and the Women Safety Wing, along with those from the traffic and law and order wings, were present during the inspection.
