Cyberabad police weigh bus reroutes, U-turn closures for tech corridor

Cyberabad traffic police study bus diversions, U-turn closures, and a pedestrian underpass to ease congestion on the JNTU-HITEC City corridor.

The Cyberabad traffic police are evaluating a set of interventions to tackle chronic congestion on the arterial stretch linking JNTU Junction with HITEC City, a key route for commuters and tech-park employees.

A coordination meeting chaired by Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunpreet Singh on Wednesday brought together senior officers, including the Additional DCP (Traffic-I), the ACP (Madhapur Traffic), and traffic advisor Prashanth. The group reviewed existing traffic flow, identified bottlenecks and conflict points, and discussed both traffic-management and engineering solutions.

Among the proposals under consideration is the diversion of RTC bus services operating between JNTU Junction and HITEC City, a move aimed at trimming vehicle volume on the crowded stretch. Officials also examined the feasibility of closing selected U-turns to reduce cross-movements and smooth vehicle progression.

The meeting also looked at the number and positioning of openings and access points on both sides of the main carriageway, assessing how these affect merging and weaving traffic. A separate proposal for a pedestrian underpass at JNTU Junction was discussed as a way to separate foot traffic from vehicles and reduce conflict at the busy crossing.

For the Wipro Junction area and its surroundings, officials studied drone footage to map traffic movement, accumulation points, merging zones, and bottlenecks. The visual data informed discussions on measures to improve circulation and ease congestion.

The corridor from Botanical Garden towards AMB Mall, including the Kothaguda Flyover and its approaches, was also reviewed. Officials deliberated on steps to regulate flow and address choke points along that segment.

Further field-level studies and detailed traffic-flow analysis will be carried out before any final decision is made on the proposed measures. The interventions are intended to ensure smoother, safer movement for both vehicles and pedestrians across the JNTU-HITEC City corridor and adjoining roads.
