Floating cinema on Dal Lake becomes highlight of IFFJK 2026 in Srinagar
A floating cinema on Srinagar's Dal Lake screened Bollywood classics during the four-day IFFJK 2026, drawing tourists and visitors to the open-air venue.
Srinagar's Dal Lake hosted a floating cinema as part of the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026, turning the water into an open-air screening space with the mountains and city lights as a backdrop.
The four-day festival, which concluded on September 10, set up a large screen on the lake and drew tourists and visitors keen to watch films in an unusual setting. The Floating Cinema opened with the 1961 classic Junglee and went on to screen films shot in Kashmir, allowing audiences to see familiar locations on the big screen while seated on the water.
On Wednesday, the venue screened Kashmir Ki Kali, the 1964 Hindi film starring Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore, known for its romance and music.
A visitor, Aditi Sharma, described the experience as unique and unprecedented in the region. "This is something very unique that has happened this time. Basically, this is the first time something like this has happened in Kashmir. We've never had a floating cinema here before, most of the movies being showcased are Kashmir-based," she said.
The Floating Cinema emerged as one of the major attractions of the festival, which marked the first edition of IFFJK.
