Alleged crime boss Daniel Kinahan lands in Dublin after Dubai extradition

Daniel Kinahan, the 49-year-old alleged head of an international organised crime network, has been returned to Ireland from Dubai to face prosecution. An Irish military aircraft carrying him is expected to touch down at an airfield outside Dublin on Sunday evening, following a decision by a court in Dubai to clear the way for his extradition.

Kinahan is slated to be brought before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, where he will face charges of directing an organised crime group. Authorities have prepared for his arrival with an extensive security operation involving armed police, military personnel, and the prison service.

After his court appearance, Kinahan is expected to be transferred to Portlaoise Prison, a high-security facility located roughly 90 miles southwest of the capital. The prison service has recently acquired a bomb-proof escort van designed to transport high-risk detainees, including those accused of terrorism and organised crime offences.

The charges stem from allegations that Kinahan ran a sprawling drug trafficking and money laundering enterprise with operations reaching across Britain, Spain, and the United States. His extradition marks a significant step in efforts by Irish authorities to dismantle the network he is accused of leading.
