Two Arrested in Darbhanga After Minor Alleges Assault Following Lift Offer

Two youths have been arrested in Bihar's Darbhanga district after a minor girl alleged that she was sexually assaulted following a motorcycle ride offered to her after an examination, police said on Saturday.

The case falls under the jurisdiction of Biraul police station.

According to police, the girl had gone to school on September 23 to appear for an examination and was on her way home when a youth from her village offered to drop her on his motorcycle. She agreed because she knew him.

Instead of taking her home, the youth allegedly took her to another village, where a second young man was present. The two then sexually assaulted her, police said.

After the incident, the girl told her family, who took her to Biraul police station and lodged a complaint against both youths. Police registered the case and began investigating on the basis of her statement and complaint.

Acting on instructions from Senior Superintendent of Police Jagunath Reddy, SDPO Prabhakar Tiwari carried out a late-night raid, after which both accused were arrested. The motorcycle allegedly used in the incident was also seized.

Investigators are examining the sequence of events, including how the girl came to travel on the motorcycle, her reported stay at the maternal grandparents' house of one of the accused, and her subsequent movement towards Darbhanga railway station. Police are also looking into a possible relationship angle based on the statement of one of the arrested youths, while noting that the circumstances and allegations remain under investigation.

The accused are being questioned and available evidence is being examined to establish the sequence of events and the roles of those involved. Further legal action will follow based on the findings, police said.

The identity of the minor has not been disclosed in keeping with legal protections for child victims of sexual offences.
