Delcy Rodríguez Arrives in New York for UN Assembly and Expected Trump Meeting

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has arrived in New York, where she is scheduled to take part in the United Nations General Assembly. Her visit comes amid ongoing engagement between Caracas and Washington over Venezuela's political future.

Rodríguez, who previously served as vice president under Nicolás Maduro, assumed the role of acting president after US forces captured Maduro in Venezuela in January. Maduro remains in US custody in New York, where he is awaiting trial on drug charges.

Since taking office, Rodríguez has worked with President Donald Trump's administration on what has been described as a three-phase plan for Venezuela's political transition. Trump has repeatedly praised Rodríguez, calling her a terrific person and saying she is doing a great job.

According to the White House, the two leaders are expected to meet in New York during the General Assembly gathering. The encounter, if it takes place, would mark another step in the direct contacts between the two governments.

Rodríguez was received at the airport by Calixto Ortega, economic vice president and Venezuela's governor to the IMF; John Barret, the US charge d'affaires to Venezuela; and Oliver Blanco, Venezuela's top diplomat for US and Europe relations.
