Delhi Constable Suspended for Filming Gun Videos at BRICS Summit Venue
Delhi Police constable Deepak Bangar was suspended after allegedly posting Instagram reels with guns while deployed for BRICS Summit security at a five-star hotel.
A Delhi Police constable deployed for rooftop sniper duty during the 18th BRICS Summit has been suspended after he allegedly posted Instagram reels showing firearms while on duty, officials said.
The constable, Deepak Bangar, was attached to the Foreigners Cell of Northwest Delhi. He had been assigned to security arrangements at one of the two five-star hotels where foreign delegates were staying during the two-day summit.
In one of the videos, Bangar appears in a casual black shirt holding a light machine gun, posing as if aiming it while the camera pans across the city skyline at night. A second video shows a pistol tucked into his pocket as he wears the BRICS Summit identity card around his neck.
The reels drew wide attention online, prompting the Delhi Police to take note. Bangar was subsequently suspended, and a departmental inquiry into the matter is under way.
The summit was held in Delhi on September 12 and 13 under India's fourth chairship of the bloc. Thirty-two delegations took part, including 11 from BRICS member states, 10 partners, four regional bodies and seven international organisations.
BRICS originally comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It expanded in 2024 to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, with Indonesia joining in 2025. Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam became partner countries last year.
