Delhi Launches 'Eat Well Live Well' Programme Across 75 Schools

Delhi govt launches 'Eat Well Live Well' in 75 CM SHRI Schools to teach 30,000 students practical wellbeing skills.

The Delhi government has introduced the 'Eat Well Live Well' programme across 75 CM SHRI Schools, aiming to instil lasting healthy habits in approximately 30,000 students. Education Minister Ashish Sood launched the initiative alongside officials, educators, and students.

The programme centres on Foundational Wellbeing Literacy (FWL), moving beyond textbooks to teach practical, everyday skills. Students will learn about nutritious food choices, food safety, personal hygiene, safe drinking water, and the importance of physical activity. The curriculum also covers mealtime practices and improving the overall school environment.

A distinctive feature is its focus on holistic development, incorporating 21 personal habits, seven social skills, and seven planetary skills. This framework encourages students to care for their own health, interact responsibly with others, and develop environmental awareness. Parents are expected to play a role, ensuring these lessons are reinforced at home.

Participating schools will establish Wellbeing Committees and adopt a School Wellbeing Score to evaluate current practices and monitor progress. Education Director Ankita Anand clarified that the programme is designed to complement existing activities, not add administrative burden. Learning will occur through short discussions, practical exercises, and visual cues, with no separate examinations.

Launched during Poshan Maah and ahead of Teachers' Day, the initiative underscores the government's view that while foundational literacy and numeracy are crucial for learning, Foundational Wellbeing Literacy is essential for students to 'live well'.
