Woman Who Wanted a Son After Six Daughters Held for Stealing Toddler From Delhi Hospital

A three-year-old boy who was kidnapped from a Delhi hospital has been safely recovered from Bihar's Munger district, police said on Monday. The child had gone missing while playing at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in the national capital, where his mother was undergoing treatment.

Following a complaint, the Delhi Police formed a special team to investigate. CCTV footage from the hospital showed an unidentified woman leading the child away. Further tracking of cameras revealed she had taken an e-rickshaw towards Madipur village.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Chunri Devi, a resident of Bihar's Banka district who had been living in a rented accommodation in Madipur. By the time police reached her residence, she had already fled to her native state.

Acting on technical surveillance and local intelligence, a team from Khyala Police Station travelled to Asnaha village in Munger district. A raid was conducted, and the child was recovered safely.

During interrogation, the woman confessed that she had six daughters and could no longer conceive due to medical issues. She admitted to stealing the child with the intention of raising him as her own son.

The boy has been brought back to Delhi and handed over to his family. Further legal proceedings are underway.
