Speeding i20 Kills One Near Sukhdev Vihar Metro Station; Driver Flees
One person died and another was seriously injured after a speeding i20 hit an auto-rickshaw and a rickshaw near Sukhdev Vihar Metro Station in Delhi.
A speeding white i20 car struck an auto-rickshaw and a rickshaw near Sukhdev Vihar Metro Station in South-East Delhi on Saturday morning, killing one person and leaving another seriously injured, police said.
The collision occurred roughly 100 metres from the metro station. The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to police, the driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled. Investigators are working to trace the accused.
A witness who runs a tea stall near the spot said that around 6:30 am, two cars were allegedly racing with each other. The white i20 first rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then hit a rickshaw passing nearby, the witness said.
The witness added that the driver got out of the car after the crash and fled in another vehicle along with his associates. Three to four people were present in the car, according to the account.
Police reached the spot after the accident and began investigating the circumstances that led to the collision. The damaged vehicles were examined as part of the probe.
Officers are also scanning CCTV footage from cameras in the area to identify the driver and establish the sequence of events. Further investigation is underway.
The incident comes days after a similar accident in Delhi's Sarita Vihar area, in which three people were killed and three others injured. A medium-sized dumper, allegedly coming from Noida, collided with a stationary crane and an auto-rickshaw carrying workers of the Safe City Project at around 3:20 am on Road No. 13 under Sarita Vihar Police Station, when the workers were carrying out CCTV installation work.
