The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued a stern warning to social media influencers against a dangerous new trend that involves sticking mobile phones onto the windows of moving trains to record videos.
The advisory comes after several such clips, filmed inside Metro coaches, went viral on platforms like Instagram. The trend, which originated abroad, has now caught on among Indian creators, prompting the DMRC to take notice.
In an official statement, the DMRC said that pasting phones on train windows can cause inconvenience or even injury to other passengers. It also noted that the practice could damage the devices themselves. The corporation has made it clear that filming such content is prohibited on Metro premises and that any content creator caught indulging in this activity will face necessary action.
How the Trend Works
The viral videos typically show a creator dancing or posing on the platform before dramatically sprinting after the train as it pulls away, creating the illusion that they have left their phone behind. In reality, the phone is often stuck to the window from inside the coach, with another person holding onto it to ensure it is safely retrieved.
One such video by a local creator reportedly amassed over 135 million views, inspiring a wave of copycat videos across various Delhi Metro stations. The DMRC has now directed all content creators to refrain from shooting such videos within its premises.
