Delhi-Noida Bus Rape Route: Only Two Checkpoints, No CCTV at Key Signals

A ground check of the 43-kilometre route allegedly taken by a private sleeper bus in which a 16-year-old girl was gang-raped has exposed significant gaps in surveillance and police presence.

The route, stretching from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to Kashmere Gate in North Delhi, was surveyed to assess security arrangements. The girl boarded the bus at Pari Chowk on the night of August 4, expecting to alight at Noida Sector 63. Instead, she was allegedly assaulted by the driver and conductor inside the moving vehicle before being abandoned near Kashmere Gate.

Sparse Checkpoints

The survey found only two police checkpoints along the entire 43-km stretch. The first, near Pari Chowk, had a police booth, a PCR van, and heavy barricading — visible infrastructure at the very point where the girl boarded. However, at the busy Delhi-Noida intersection near Mayur Vihar, barricades were present but no police personnel were seen during the daytime check. The final point, Kashmere Gate, had no visible checkpoint or barricading at all.

Missing Cameras

A notable gap was the absence of CCTV cameras at traffic signals on the Delhi-Noida border near Mayur Vihar, one of the busiest stretches on the route. This raises questions about continuous surveillance on a road connecting two major cities.

Police Investigation

Delhi Police investigators are independently mapping the same route to reconstruct the bus's movement. They are checking checkpoints, barricades, and CCTV footage to determine whether the vehicle was captured on camera at any point.

The bus had reportedly been taken to a workshop in Surajpur, Greater Noida, for a technical issue and was later being driven to Kashmere Gate for painting. The driver, Kuldeep (39), and conductor, Sandeep (26), were arrested from a parking lot in Timarpur shortly after an FIR was registered. Police have seized the bus, and forensic examination has found strands of the girl's hair inside the vehicle.
