Delhi Parks Get Bike Patrols, Night Checks After Kalkaji Gang Rape
Delhi authorities have introduced bike patrols and surprise night inspections at parks after a 17-year-old was allegedly gang-raped at a DDA park near Kalkaji Mandir.
Delhi has rolled out a fresh set of security measures at its public parks, including motorbike patrols and unannounced night inspections, in the wake of an alleged gang rape at a park in south Delhi's Kalkaji area.
The incident took place on September 21 at Aastha Kunj, a park maintained by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) close to the Kalkaji Mandir. A 17-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by three men who posed as police officers, according to police.
All three accused were arrested after the complaint, police said. The case had triggered concerns about safety at the city's open green spaces, particularly after dark.
The new measures are aimed at tightening surveillance and deterring crime in parks under the DDA's jurisdiction. Bike-borne patrols are expected to cover larger areas more quickly, while the surprise night checks are intended to keep watch outside regular inspection hours.
Authorities have not specified how many parks will be covered or how frequently the patrols will operate. The steps follow a review of security arrangements at public spaces in the national capital.
